Why holiday photos get scattered
A family holiday with two households, a group trip where everyone flies in separately, a stag or hen abroad, a ski week, a road trip, a cruise. It is never that nobody took any photographs. Everybody took hundreds. Three things happen to them.
The group chat ruins them
Ten days of photographs go into WhatsApp and come out at a fraction of the size. They are fine on a phone screen and useless for a print, and the good one from the second evening is four hundred messages up.
Everybody has a different day
You split up after breakfast. Somebody goes to the beach, somebody walks into town, and the children are photographed by whichever adult happened to be there. The pictures of your own family are on other people’s phones.
Then everybody goes home to a different house
The evening you land is the last time the group is together. After that it is a request that has to be made, chased, and made again, and most of what existed never gets sent.
One link, in the chat that already exists
The awkward part of every other occasion is getting the code in front of people. On a holiday that part is already solved.
Put it in the group chat
There is already a thread with everybody in it, made for the flights and the villa. Paste the link into it before anybody travels. That is the only moment the whole group is reachable at once, and it is the reason this works without a host.
Nobody has to remember it
The link stays in the chat. Anybody scrolling back finds it, including the person who joined the trip late and the one who lost their phone in Faro.
Nobody has to install anything
It opens in the browser they already have, which matters more abroad than at home: nobody is downloading an app on airport data or a hotel network to help you out.

Name it after the trip and pick a cover. It takes about a minute and you do not need a card.

Some photographs have to wait
Over a fortnight people move between hotel wifi, mobile data, a plane and no signal at all. An upload does not have to succeed the moment it is made, which is the part a QR code for wedding photos never has to think about.
Uploads wait rather than fail
On a bad hotel network or an expensive roaming plan, an upload queues instead of dying. It goes when there is a connection.
People add when they get back
Plenty of the album arrives after the trip, when somebody is on wifi at home going through a fortnight of camera roll. That is normal and the album is built for it.
A year to keep adding
The album stays open for a year, two on Plus, so the photographs that surface in November from a holiday in June still have somewhere to go.
The last night, on whatever screen the place has
If the villa or the hotel room has a television, the live slideshow will run the fortnight through it while everybody is packing. It is the one evening of a holiday where the group is together and not doing anything, and it is the closest a trip gets to the moment a wedding has built into it.
The disposable camera is on the same code if you want it, with Snapchat lenses, which tends to get used by whoever is youngest on the trip and by nobody else.
If what you are actually running is one evening with a host and a room, that is a party photo album and the page for it is shorter. The album underneath is the same QR code photo album; what changes on a holiday is when the code is shared and how long it stays open.
Questions, answered
How do I share holiday photos with everyone on the trip?
Create the album before you go and paste its link into the group chat that already exists. Anybody who has it can add photos and videos from their phone, without an app and without an account, and everything collects in one album you can download at full quality.
Does it work abroad, on hotel wifi or roaming?
Yes. It runs in the phone browser, so there is nothing to install on a foreign network. Uploads use whatever connection the person has: on a weak one they queue rather than fail, and go when there is signal. Many people add the bulk of their photographs once they are home on wifi.
Can people add photos after the holiday is over?
Yes, and most do. The album stays open for a year on Classic and two years on Plus, which is deliberate: holiday photographs arrive slowly, as people work through their camera roll weeks later.
Is it one album for the whole trip or one per day?
One album for the whole trip. Everything lands in it in the order it was taken, so a fortnight reads as a fortnight rather than as fourteen separate uploads.
Do the photos stay full quality?
Yes. Every photo and video is kept at the resolution it was taken, not the compressed version a group chat produces. You download the original files, which is the point of using this instead of WhatsApp.
Who can see the album?
Only people with the link or the code. It is not listed or indexed anywhere. You can also turn approval on so nothing appears until you have seen it, or switch the guest gallery off so people can add without browsing.
What does it cost?
One payment of £34.99 for the whole trip, never a subscription and never per person. You can create the album and use it before paying: the first 10 uploads are free and it does not ask for a card.
