Questions, answered
Grouped by what you are trying to find out. Nothing is open to begin with, because you are probably here for one thing.
Before you pay
How much does PixelParty cost?
Classic is £34.99 and covers up to 500 guests. Plus is £49.99 with no guest limit. Both are a single payment for the event, not a subscription, and both include unlimited photo and video uploads. There is nothing to cancel afterwards.
Can I try it before paying?
Yes. Create your event and use the whole thing: the first 10 uploads cost nothing and you do not need a card to start. Everything you set up beforehand is still there when you pay. There is also a demo album you can scan and upload to right now without creating anything.
Which plan do I need?
Classic suits most weddings and parties: 500 guests is comfortably more than a typical event, and uploads are unlimited so the guest count is the only limit. Plus is for festivals, conferences and anything where you cannot predict the number of people, and it doubles how long the album stays open.
How are guests counted?
By device, not by visit or upload. The first time a phone opens your album, whether by scanning the code or following the link, that device is counted once. It can come back as often as it likes and add as many photographs as it likes without counting again.
How far in advance can I buy it?
As far ahead as you like, and buying early costs you nothing: the access window runs from the event date you choose, not from the date you paid. If you do not have a firm date yet, put a placeholder in and change it later.
Do my guests pay anything?
No. Guests never pay and never create an account. They scan the code, the upload page opens in their browser, and that is the whole of their side of it.
What your guests have to do
Do guests need to download an app?
No. Uploading runs in the browser the phone already has. Pointing the camera at the code opens the page, and choosing a photograph is the same as attaching one to a message. This is deliberate: the moment somebody has to install something, most of them do not.
Do guests need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no login and nothing to unsubscribe from afterwards. A guest can add their name if they want it attached to their photographs, and that is optional.
Will older guests manage it?
This is the question we are asked most and the answer is generally yes. There is nothing to install and nothing to log into. The reviews mention it often enough that it is worth reading what people actually say rather than taking ours for it.
What if somebody has no phone, or a very old one?
The upload page works on any modern smartphone browser, iPhone or Android. For anybody without one, the usual answer is that somebody else adds their photographs for them, or you add them yourself from the host side later.
Can guests see everybody else’s photos?
Only if you let them. The guest gallery is a switch: leave it on and everyone browses the album as it fills, turn it off and people can add without seeing anything. You can change your mind at any point, including after the event.
Setting it up and running it
When does the album go live?
Two weeks before the date you set, so you have time to test the code, print whatever you are printing and add a few photographs before anybody arrives.
Can I use it for a multi-day event?
Yes. Weddings that run over a weekend, festivals, conferences and holidays all use one album for the whole thing. Set the first day as your event date and everything lands in one place in the order it was taken.
Can I stop guests uploading?
Yes, at any time and as often as you like. Uploads can be paused before the event, after it, or in the middle while you catch up on approvals, and turned back on from the same screen.
Can somebody else help me run it?
Yes. You can add a co-host, which is the usual answer when the person organising is not the person the event is for. Classic includes one co-host and Plus has no limit.
What if the venue has bad signal?
Uploads use whatever connection the guest has. On a weak one they queue rather than fail and go when something gets through, so nothing is lost, but the live slideshow will not update until it does. It is worth asking the venue before the day.
Can I change the date after I have bought it?
Yes, from the event settings. The access window moves with it.
Privacy, approval and moderation
Who can see my album?
Only people with the code or the link. It is not listed anywhere, it is not indexed by search engines, and there is no directory of events.
Can I approve photos before they appear?
Yes. With approval on, a photograph is visible to nobody at all until you or a co-host has approved it: not to other guests, not on the slideshow, not in the album. You can leave it on for the whole event.
Can I remove something after it has gone in?
Yes, and it disappears for everyone the moment you do it. Hiding is not deleting: the photograph stays in your download in case somebody later wants it.
Who controls the album?
You do, and any co-host you add. Guests can upload, and that is all: they cannot delete uploads, change settings or manage anybody else’s photographs.
Who is behind PixelParty?
PIXELPARTY GROUP LTD, a company registered in Scotland, started in 2023 after its founder could not find a sensible way to collect the photographs from his own wedding. About PixelParty has the company registration, the press coverage and a video of the person who built it.
Do you use our photographs for marketing?
Not without asking first. Everything on this site that shows a real event is there because the people in it said yes. The terms say the same thing in the language of a contract.
Getting the photographs back
How do I download everything?
From the host side, in one action. On the app the photographs save straight to your camera roll; in a browser they download as files. They come at the resolution they were taken, not a compressed copy, and you can do it as many times as you like rather than waiting until the end.
How long do we have?
On Classic, a year to upload from your event date and a year after that to download. On Plus, two years each. Contributions to some albums arrive slowly, which is why the window is long rather than a weekend.
Do the photos stay full quality?
Yes. Uploads are stored at the resolution the phone took them at, rather than the compressed version a group chat or a social platform produces. What you download is the original file.
Does it take video as well?
Yes, at full quality, with no separate limit and no separate charge. An older review on this site mentions video not being supported, which was true when it was written and is not now.
Who owns the photographs?
You do, and the people who took them. We store and display them to run the service and for nothing else. If you want the album and everything in it deleted, the data deletion page is the route, and it is worth downloading first because deletion is not reversible.
Still not answered
Each occasion page has its own questions: weddings, parties, memorials, corporate events and holidays. The mechanism is on how it works and the plan comparison is on pricing.
If it is still not here, email [email protected]. It is read by the people who build PixelParty.
Or just try it
The first 10 uploads are free and it does not ask for a card, which is usually a faster answer than reading about it.
